Why the name change?
That's the weird part - it's not really a name change. To say we "changed our name" would mean that everything else is the same, and just the title by which this band goes is different. But that's not the case. We're a different band now. Don't worry, we have all the same members. No, Bob didn't became a stage tech on the Michael Bolton tour, and Chip put off joining that weirdo sect of peyote-farming New Mexican monks.
For almost 2 years, we've been writing and recording a new album. In the process, it occurred to us that things had changed dramatically. Our music started sounding totally different. We started wearing our more classic influences on our sleeves. We matured as people and started to see things differently than we had in the past. On top of that, the scene that surrounded us had changed a lot as well, and we began to question our place and where we belong. It became pretty obvious to us that Ecotone had come to an end, and that was a difficult thing to deal with. Ecotone as an idea, a being, took up much of our lives for over 7 years and now, it's over. But that doesn't mean we're going to stop making music as friends and bandmates, and it doesn't mean we can't start again with new ideas.
We're different - different as people, as a band, and as songwriters and musicians. It's still the same line-up, but we've grown and changed. It only makes sense that we kiss Ecotone good-bye in favor starting anew. We're pumped for a new leaf, a clean page, or however people say it.
Our new band is called Gentleman Thieves. Our new album, The Price of Silence, will be available soon.
Stay tuned for announcements on our upcoming CD release show and other things currently in the works. Oh, and all Ecotone CDs and merchandise will be available for fire-sale prices.
